Mainland artist in Hong Kong court accused of hurling plastic cup at Cathay Pacific stewardess

A well-known painter hailing from mainland China is in the Hong Kong news, not for his art, but for allegedly throwing cup at a flight attendant who didn’t serve him water quickly enough.

Lee Yuet-fung appeared in Tsuen Wan Court today where he entered a “not guilty” plea for common assault.

The misadventure took place aboard a Cathay Pacific flight from Singapore to Hong Kong last December, when the 68 year-old artist is said to have thrown the cup at Cathay Pacific flight attendant because she didn’t pour him water immediately when he asked for it.

She was apparently distributing meals to other passengers when the artist made his request.

Lee, who is representing himself in court, claimed that his hands were shaking due to diabetes that the cup dropped innocently on to the floor.

He said needed the water in order to take his medicine, reports the SCMP

Lee told the court that he is a passenger with special needs, and it is the duty of the flight attendants to look after him. He complained further that it took 20 minutes before he was served water.

The case continues.
